Legal Bases
To the extent that the GDPR applies to Block You!'s local processing, processing is carried out to provide the app functions requested by the user on the basis of Article 6(1)(b) GDPR. Where data is processed for technical security, traceability of local screening decisions, or protection against unwanted calls, Article 6(1)(f) GDPR also applies. The legitimate interest is locally controllable call protection.
Is Providing the Data Required?
Use of Block You! is voluntary. The Android permissions and the call screening role are required, however, in order to use the respective functions. Without these permissions, Block You! cannot show the call history, create rules from real calls, or screen incoming calls locally.
Does Data Leave the Device?
Block You! does not transmit call data, phone numbers, block rules, or protection log data to provider servers or third parties. Block You! works locally without cloud processing.
Storage and Deletion
Block rules and the protection log are stored locally in the app. Block You! allows up to 10 saved block rules. Users can delete block rules in the block list and clear the protection log in settings. Uninstalling the app removes its local app data. Android backup is disabled.
Permissions
Call Screening Role
This role is required so Android can pass incoming calls to Block You! for screening and blocking.
Call History
The call history permission is used so Block You! can show real calls and create block rules for numbers or prefixes from them.
Notifications
The notification permission is used to show local notices about blocked calls.
Third-Party SDKs
Block You! does not use analytics, advertising, or crash-reporting SDKs.
Recipients and Third-Country Transfers
Call data, phone numbers, block rules, and protection log data are not transmitted to recipients outside the device. No transfer to third countries or international organisations takes place.
Automated Decisions
Block You! screens incoming calls locally based on the rules created by the user. No further automated decision-making within the meaning of Article 22 GDPR and no profiling takes place.
User Rights
Subject to the GDPR, you have in particular the right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability, and objection to certain processing. Where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw that consent at any time with effect for the future.
Right to Lodge a Complaint
You have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority. In North Rhine-Westphalia, the competent authority is the State Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information North Rhine-Westphalia.
